Media Center
The Poplin Media Center is open each day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents and students are welcome to contact Mrs. Medlin if you need help with technology.
We currently have 14,466 titles in the Media Center. Students will visit the Media Center each week with their class.
Destiny is the K-12 library management system for UCPS. It provides a visually appealing and highly graphic online searching experience where students can conduct a single search and have appropriate results (books, websites, database articles, DVDs, etc. returned in one list.) Students and teachers access Destiny through NCEdcloud via Clever.
The following databases should be accessed through our student's NCEdCloud account and Clever for students and staff. Please ask Mrs. Medlin if you need assistance.
Battle of the Books
The Battle of the Books Club for students in fourth and fifth grades. We will be reading 16 titles for next year's competition. We will compete in the UCPS County Battle of the Books Competition in the Spring of 2026. All students in grades 3 and 4 learned about the Battle of the Books program at the end of the 2024-2025 school year. It is recommended that students begin reading these books over the summer. The club will be promoted to students during weekly Media Center visits beginning in September 2025.
Meet our Media Coordinator
Beth Medlin
I have worked as a librarian for 27 years, seventeen of which have been for UCPS. Prior to UCPS, I worked ten years at the Union County Public Library. I have also worked as a Reference Librarian at UNCG and UNCC. I received my Bachelor's degree from UNCC and my Master's degree in Library and Information Studies from UNCG. I love being around books, information, and people. I became an educator because I love to learn and I love the challenge of trying to find information or a book that is just right.
On a personal note, I have been married for 20 years and I have two sons: Silas who is a freshman at NC State University, and Will, who is a freshman at Central Piedmont Community College. During my free time, I love to travel, go out to eat, see movies, and to spend time with my family. One of our favorite family things to do is to go out to eat and split desserts. The hardest thing is deciding on one dessert!
I believe children have the right to read whatever they are interested in. One of my favorite quotes by Dr. Seuss is: “The more that you read, the more that you know. The more than you learn, the more you will grow!”
